On Level the Playing Field

Level the Playing Field is a localized community support organization formed for the express purpose of lending a much-needed hand to those who cannot help themselves.

WE ORGANIZE

We organize fundraising events to generate financial and material resources for families in need.

WE PARTNER

We develop partnerships and referral networks with organizations such as ARI, Catholic Charities and The Umbrella Club to ensure resources are directed where they are needed most.

WE REFER

We maintain an active referral network for information, resources and guidance to families.

WE ASSIST

We provide financial assistance for continuing educational expenses when feasible.

WE BUILD RELATIONSHIPS

We help build relationships with local area employers open to hiring individuals with special needs.

WE ENABLE

We strive to enable people with special needs to grow at all stages of life and lead productive lives.

We were awarded a tax exempt 501 ( C) (3) certificate in the fall of 2025, allowing us to maximize the contributions we make directly to individuals. Additionally, our donors and supporters can now contribute tax-free to our initiatives.

A Bit of History

We began as the Frank J. Robotti Tootsie Roll Golf Tournament in 1991. Formed by members of the Knights of Columbus Council #41 in Stamford, CT, a small handful of citizens enjoyed a day of golf and handed out tootsie rolls to local children.

Over the years, the number of attendees to the annual outing increased beyond council members as regular golfers and prominent citizens began attending and supporting even more initiatives beyond the golf outing.

Recognizing the genuine spirit of the small group running the events, more and more people began to volunteer, contribute, and attend each year, providing raffle and auction items. The event grew to be a sell-out each year.

With each passing year, the community helping the community is celebrating those who give together with those being helped. Several are honored at the events each year, with awards in services, education and more celebrated at the events.

In 2021, it was decided that a committee needed to be formed to take on the increasing duties of planning and running the events which by then were growing to several other fundraising initiatives throughout the year.

The organization was renamed in 2022. Level the Playing Field was formed. With a strategic vision and organizational structure to grow its impact to the 2,500 special needs citizens in our area,  Level the Playing Field received its 501 (C ) (3) status this year.

In 2025, nearly 300 people attended the luncheon. To date, over $1 Million has been awarded.

And we’ve only just begun.
